Why Choose Air Source for Garage Heaters?
Garage heater installation involves gas work that requires proper licensing and expertise. Air Source Home Comfort brings professional credentials and practical experience:
Our Garage Heaters Installation Process
Adding heat to your garage is straightforward with the right contractor. Here's our approach:
Assessment & Sizing
We evaluate your garage—size, insulation, door type, and intended use—to calculate the right BTU output. Proper sizing ensures comfort without wasting energy.
Solution Recommendation
We recommend the best heater type for your situation. Unit heaters work well for most applications; infrared is better for high ceilings or frequent door opening.
Gas Line & Installation
We run new gas lines if needed (common for detached garages), install your heater in the optimal location, and set up thermostat control.
Testing & Instruction
We test everything, verify safe operation, and show you how to use your new heater effectively. Enjoy your warm garage!
What We Offer
Forced Air Unit Heaters
Ceiling-mounted unit heaters are the most popular choice for garage heating. They provide powerful, fast heating and distribute warmth throughout the space with an integrated fan.
Infrared/Radiant Heaters
Radiant heaters warm objects directly rather than heating the air. They're ideal for high-ceiling garages, spaces with frequent door opening, or areas where you want targeted heat in work zones.
Proper Sizing
We calculate the exact BTU output needed for your garage size and insulation level. Undersized heaters can't keep up; oversized heaters waste energy. We get it right.
Gas Line Installation
If your garage doesn't have gas service, we can run new lines from your home's supply. Our TSSA licensing covers complete gas work including new lines.
"I wanted to use my garage for woodworking in the winter. Air Source installed a unit heater that gets it up to a comfortable temperature in about 20 minutes. Now I can work on projects year-round. Should have done this years ago!"— Tom H., Barrie
Garage Heaters Questions Answered
Common questions we receive about garage heatersfrom homeowners throughout Central Ontario.
What size heater do I need for my garage?
It depends on garage size, insulation, and climate zone. A typical 2-car garage (400-500 sq ft) in our area needs 30,000-45,000 BTU for comfortable heating. Uninsulated garages need more capacity. We'll calculate the exact requirement for your space.
Natural gas vs. propane—which is better?
If you have natural gas service to your home, extending it to the garage is typically most economical. Propane is an excellent option for detached garages without gas lines or properties not served by natural gas. If you're on natural gas, we can also run an underground gas line to feed a separate detached garage. We assess the best solution during our complimentary in-home consultation.
Can I install a garage heater myself?
In Ontario, gas appliance installation requires a TSSA-licensed technician for safety and insurance purposes. Improper installation can void warranties and create safety hazards. We handle everything including permits and inspections.
How quickly can a garage heater warm up my space?
A properly sized unit heater can raise garage temperature significantly within 15-30 minutes. For quick warm-ups when you need to work, thermostatic control lets you pre-heat before you arrive.
Will a garage heater lower my home heating costs?
For attached garages, keeping the space above freezing can reduce cold air infiltration into your home and make adjacent rooms more comfortable. While it won't necessarily lower your overall heating bills, many homeowners find it improves comfort throughout the home.
Does my garage need to be insulated?
Insulation is the best practice for efficiency, but it's not required if you want to temporarily heat the space for certain projects. An insulated garage holds heat much longer and requires less energy, but a properly sized heater can still make an uninsulated garage usable when you need it.
Are garage heaters noisy?
A forced air garage heater does make some noise when operating due to the fan. If noise is a concern, we can explore a radiant heater if your space allows it—radiant heaters operate silently. We handle all of our recommendations during our complimentary in-home consultation.
