Professional Hydronic Heating Services in Central Ontario

Hydronic (water-based) radiant floor heating represents the pinnacle of home heating comfort. Warm water circulates through tubing beneath your floors, radiating heat upward evenly throughout the room. There are no cold spots near windows, no drafts from vents, and no noise whatsoever. The heat rises gently from the floor, keeping your feet warm while allowing lower air temperatures at head level—exactly what humans find most comfortable. Air Source Home Comfort designs and installs hydronic heating systems for new construction and renovations. We work with builders, general contractors, and homeowners to create custom systems that provide decades of reliable, comfortable heat.

In-floor heating is increasingly popular in our service area, from high-end custom homes in Muskoka to practical applications in bathrooms and basements throughout Barrie and Collingwood. We've designed and installed systems ranging from single-zone bathroom retrofits to whole-home radiant heating in new construction. Our experience helps us create systems that perform beautifully for decades.

Our Hydronic Heating Installation Process

Hydronic heating requires careful design and precise installation. Our process ensures your system delivers the comfort you expect:

1

Consultation & Design

We discuss your project, evaluate the space, and design a complete hydronic heating system. This includes heat loss calculations, zone planning, and equipment selection.

2

Coordination & Scheduling

For new construction, we coordinate with your builder and other trades. For renovations, we plan the work to minimize disruption to your home.

3

Tubing Installation

We install PEX tubing in your floor—either in concrete slabs or under subfloors depending on construction type. Precise layout ensures even heat distribution.

4

Mechanical Room Setup

We install the boiler or heat pump, manifolds, pumps, and controls that power your system. Quality components ensure decades of reliable operation.

5

Testing & Balancing

We pressure test all tubing, commission the system, and balance flow rates for optimal performance. Your system is ready to deliver years of comfortable heat.

What We Offer

New Construction Systems

For new homes, we design and install complete hydronic systems from the ground up. We coordinate with your builder to ensure tubing is installed at the proper construction phase.

Renovation Retrofits

In-floor heating can be added during bathroom, kitchen, or basement renovations. We install tubing during the flooring replacement phase for minimal additional disruption.

Zoned Temperature Control

Control temperatures independently in each room or zone. Keep bedrooms cooler and living areas warmer, or heat only occupied areas to save energy.

Snow Melt Systems

The same hydronic technology can keep driveways and walkways ice-free. Never shovel or salt again—your heated driveway clears itself automatically.

"When we built our new home in Muskoka, we knew we wanted in-floor heat everywhere. Air Source designed and installed a beautiful system—every room is perfectly comfortable, the floors are warm, and it's absolutely silent. The best decision we made for the new house."

Hydronic Heating Questions Answered

Common questions we receive about hydronic heatingfrom homeowners throughout Central Ontario.

Can I add in-floor heating to an existing home?

Yes, but it's most practical during a renovation when floors are being replaced. Bathrooms, kitchens, and basements are popular retrofit locations. For bathrooms, the comfort difference is particularly dramatic.

What flooring works best with in-floor heating?

Tile and stone conduct heat best and are ideal over radiant heating. Engineered hardwood, laminate, and luxury vinyl also work well. Carpet is less ideal because it insulates against the heat. We'll advise on the best options for your project.

Is in-floor heating expensive to operate?

In-floor heating is actually very efficient because it heats at lower water temperatures than other systems. The radiant warmth also allows lower thermostat settings while maintaining comfort. Many homeowners find their overall heating costs decrease.

How long does hydronic heating last?

PEX tubing installed in floors has an expected lifespan of 50+ years. The mechanical components (boiler, pumps, controls) typically last 20-25 years and are easily replaced without disturbing the in-floor tubing.

Can I use a heat pump with hydronic heating?

Yes! Air-to-water heat pumps are increasingly popular for powering hydronic systems. They provide the efficiency benefits of heat pump technology combined with the comfort of radiant heat. We can design hybrid systems with heat pump primary and boiler backup.
